Trivia

I'm seeing new sights every day. Sand herons in the parking lot. Armadillo in our RV Park. Kumquats near the laundry room.

  1. Armadillos are kind of a neat animal. They don't have any teeth, and can hold their breath under water, like crossing a stream. Pretty harmless, but they sound like an elephant coming through the brush, don't they? Florida has some beautiful water birds. Don't get to close to those holes in the ground unless you know for sure what's in them. I remember when the tall young man here was still a very short person, and I took him camping up in GA. I pointed out several gopher tortoise holes, in hopes we'd see one. When we checked out, I overheard the ranger telling another camper most holes had a resident rattle snake. Oh, maybe next time you're at B&N, you could see if they have a copy of a softcover book called "Florida's Fabulous Water Birds" to look through. The herons here will sometimes come up from the nearby pond and stand straight and stiff as a board staring at a tree trunk...an unsuspecting lizard or frog comes along, and in a flash, becomes lunch.

Have you tried the kumquats? FL lost citrus to freezing this crop, but there still should be some good citrus around. Satsumas are a local, easy to peel, sweet orange. If you find yourself with free time again on a weekend, an orange grove might be a fun place to visit.

Such fun pictures you always take. Can you imagine if you'd taken this trip before the digital age? Did you take a lot of photos on your RV trips back in the film days? D

  2. Yes, I took pictures from California to New York City--before discovering the joy of a digital camera. I used a company called Seattle Filmworks (AKA Photoworks) to develop my pictures and store them on-line. I have hundreds (thousands?) of pictures in storage that I'll probably never see again!!

I waited for about ten minutes waiting for the Armadillo to come out of the hole so I could get a better picture. Maybe next time?

The Herons didn't move although I got closer and closer to them.

THANKS for commenting that I take "fun pictures." If I find something interesting, I speculate that someone else might find it interesting, too.
